Slipping Reality

So small

So potent

So wrong

Slip it under my tongue

Hold it there till time has gone

Dissolved and devolved

The process has begun

Ego is a shell

Keep you safe

Tell us what you sell

Feel it shatter

After years without a crack

Pieces scatter round my feet

I remain, a soft and melting blob of goo, underneath

Exposed after so long

Every thought an exploding bomb

The sun's so hot it melts my skin

Can't tell where the world ends and I begin

Sticky sweet and drizzled with sin

The day drags on

Dangerous to think any thought too long

Whispers in the wind

They'll make a sane man cringe

A thousand lies so clear before my eyes

Make me laugh, make me cry

Confusion soaks the air

Life becomes so clear

Open my mouth, nonsense words spilling out

I am a child, new and clean

I sparkle like a sponge

Life becomes as simple as a dream

Slipped through a crack in the universe

I come out jumbled and misplaced

I try to put myself back together

Piece by piece I examine the shards of humanity at my feet

When I try the new shell on it leaks

No glue strong enough to defeat clarity through decite

And when the man does a grandstand off the great platue

A chorus cries out from below

In shock and fear their scream of no echos into the unknown

But the woman claps and winks

And dips her toes into my memory

Stir the water call it clarity

Follow the sound of the leaking sink

Rust covers the foam on my drink

Can't speak

Can't think

So I just sit on the brink

Eyes wide shut

Too afraid to blink

Slowly I forget

Confusion slips through the net

Clarity devolves to certainty

I am now certain I am not dead

I do not remember a single thing she said

But her voice, like silk on sandpaper skin

It keeps her near

And she keeps me here

Just a little longer

Please let me stay

This can't have been the whole day

Even as the darkness seeps away

A new kind comes in its place

Because reality always has final say
